Originally from St. Louis, Alyson has lived in various cities across the United States, gathering a wealth of experience and a passion for outdoor activities, which she brings to her practice. Their practice is a hub for the queer community in Denver, providing services that encourage clients to express themselves authentically and confidently. Alyson and Rachel are passionate about creating affirming spaces and services for queer folks and families. We help clients find their voice and communicate with confidence, clarity, authenticity, and independence.
What Inspired You to Start Speech and Movement LLC?
I had been working as a speech-language pathologist for 10 years in public schools, early intervention programs, and medical settings and I was burning out with the demands of high caseloads and poor work-life boundaries. I also realized that I am a highly sensitive person with mild attention and sensory needs that were often unmet in hospitals and schools. I had a wealth of experience and skills to share with clients, and individual sessions in a more comfortable environment allowed me to be more focused and present with my clients, helping them make better progress. I also was frustrated with district policies and insurance companies dictating the services clients could receive, even if they wanted to work more towards their goals! Working in my own practice allows me to truly meet my clients where they are on their growth journey, and help them achieve ANY goal they deem worthy for themselves.
As a queer person myself, I try to patron and support LGBTQIA+ affirming businesses when possible. I know how impactful it is to work with a queer coach/therapist/medical provider/educator for my own personal needs, and I hope to be that affirming and empathetic person for you!
