On Wednesday, I went to check out Denver’s newest gay bar and first LGBTQ-oriented sports bar, the wonderfully named Tight End Sports Bar. Located on Colfax a block away from the Denver Pride Center, it takes the space of Streets, a punk bar. It was a perfect image of a thriving scene despite Covid restrictions. On this Friday afternoon, the tables were full of a nice mix of people. There was no shortage of big screens featuring games of many different sports from all over.
Tight End shares a space with an amazing New York-style pizzeria, Three Guys Pies . For now, all the bar’s food comes from the pizzeria. Patrons of Streets will be familiar as it’s the same business and owners. All the food is made in-house, by hand, and to order. The slices were enormous! Three Guys and Tight End share the same hours of 3 pm to 11 pm. Tight End is owned by Steven Alex, who also owns X-Bar. Alex made it clear that Tight End is to be a different entity, filling a missing niche in the Denver club and bar scene.
Happy hour is daily from 3pm to 8pm, saving customers 2 dollars off any drink. I had a great time and as I looked around me so was everything else. It’s so refreshing to have something so different open up after such a long and terrible social stint. The bartender informed me that they are cooking up some specialty drinks. In the meantime their full bar and many beers on tap will hold over anyone watching the game or meeting with friends.
